I bought a car a few years ago and got a loan through BMO Harris. For the most part it was fine.

Once I finished paying off the loan (10 months ago!) I never received the title. At the time I didn't even think about it. Now my car was declared a "total loss" in a collision recently and I've been contacting them almost daily for the last two weeks trying to get the lien release to go with my title for my insurance agent. When I first called they told me it would just take a few business days to process and fax over.

I called after 4 days to check in on the process and they assured me that it was being processed and just needed a "final signature." The following week I called to check in again and was informed that everything was approved but it stilled needed a final signature from the back office and that they would put in a request to speed up the process and it would be faxed in a day or two. After another week it had still not been faxed over and I called to check in yet again. This time they told me that that I had an outstanding balance of $15 - which I had not once been informed about in the 10 months since I had finished making payments. I'm absolutely astounded that in the two weeks I called consistently to check in on the statues of my lien, not to mention the several months prior, not once had they told me that an outstanding balance was on my account and slowing down the process.

I paid the tiny balance to speed up the process and was told that once paid the lien would be released right away. Well, I called again this morning to check on the status and was told that there was no sign of a lien release request ever being submitted or processed and that they would put one in, although it would take a few days to process and be faxed. Basically starting over again.

This is the most incompetent business I have ever dealt with. The severe lack of communication and the seemingly unorganized way of handling something that should be so simple has been a nightmare.

Hopefully they will get their act together, sent me my rightful documents and I can walk away never to work with them again.

Would definitely NOT recommend using their services for auto loans. Who knew obtaining a document would involve such an enormous number of steps.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Just want my lien so I can be done with this company.
